This is a fabulous page-turner set in a small Wisconsin lake town. A teenage boy is found dead, and his girlfriend is missing. The town's small police force is struggling with the fact that its best investigator succumbed to alcoholism after two traumatic tours in Afghanistan. That investigator is Eli North, and the Sheriff is his mother, Marge. Complicating matters is a vast interstate conspiracy involving a Chicago-based drug company. That connection brings FBI agent Alyssa Mason to town. The unlikely trio saves the day, albeit with some befuddling inter-personal tension/attraction between Eli and Alyssa.This is a blast, but the nurse-practitioner author from Wisconsin fully understands and explores alcoholism, drug addiction, and bad parenting.
