Jane Whitefield is a happily married new mother living in the Buffalo suburbs when a sixteen-year-old runaway appears at her door. In her prior life, she helped those unjustly accused or in fear of the powerful disappear into a new life. Katie is not old enough to make it on her own, and Jane takes her in to act as a nanny to newborn May. At about the same time, the Russian mob, which has been looking for her for years, springs Magda from a women's prison and tasks her with finding Jane. We are treated to a brilliant tale of cat and mouse, and attack and counterattack. It is a fitting finale to a long-running series whose author has just passed away.
